The Greatest Party On Earth!

Merida celebrated Earth Day by sponsoring and attending Artist for Humanity’s Greatest Party on Earth at the Epicenter in Boston! We were honored that AFH wanted to use our rugs to decorate the event. Our Marketing Manager Carrie and I worked closely with Phi Design Group to select rugs that would fit with their 70’s theme. We chose great statement pieces that complimented all the students artwork surrounding the event. (Please refer to the Merida blog for more details on the event.)

Pictured below are 2 of the 5 rugs that were chosen, our new tufted Ombre design in green and our Glow Optics Orange. They were both produced at our manufacturing facility in Fall River, MA.

  • Our new Ombre rug represented the “Green” carpet as you walked through to the entrance, and our Optics rug in Orange was a hit on the second floor mezzanine lounge!
Below are pictures of our Fall River rug making for the party:

  • The machine pushes yarn through a stretched screen that follows the design path of the Ombre stripe pattern.

  • The Ombre rug tufting is almost complete. Its final size was 6′wide x 30′long after it was seamed together.

  • The loop pile is tufted first, then the cut pile fills in the spaces.

All in all the party was a blast and the rugs looked beautiful! It was wonderful to be apart of such a meaningful event and to see so many people support this great cause.

ABC’s Merida Gallery

As you make your way up to the second floor of Manhattan’s ABC Carpet and Home, a fresh, spacious, gallery feel radiates from the newly redone Merida boutique! For the last couple of months, I’ve worked closely with our VP of Sales, Paul Rizzo, and our New England Account Rep, Kim Stockwell, to design the space and highlight our most unique products.

As an artist and textile designer, I’ve always considered our rugs a work of art. I treated the space as if it were a gallery and placed large rugs on the white walls like paintings.

Below are some of my sketches and additional images of the space:

  • Our Glow and Viewpoint collections on the back wall add pops of color that draw you in.

Before the redesign the space was filled with racks and rug samples, with some being placed on top of others over time.  After the redesign the space is open and pleasing to the eye. Customers can easily walk through each collection without feeling overwhelmed and cramped. If you happen to be in the area you should swing by and see it for yourself, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
